MILF chair of Peace Panel meets with Geneva Call

COTABATO CITY | 15 JULY 2019 –Advocating the enhancement of policies designed for the protection of civilians, the Minister of Basic, Higher and Technical Education Mohagher Iqbal met with Katherine Kramer of Geneva Call last July 15 at the MBHTE office.

The international humanitarian organization is conducting a world-wide research and study that aims to improve the policies and guidelines towards the protection of civilians in armed conflicts.

As a member of the MILF Central Committee and MILF peace implementing panel chair, Minister Iqbal answered Ms. Kramer’s queries regarding the MILF’s policies and guidelines relevant to the observance of human rights and international humanitarian law (IHL) as well as the organization’s experiences in the area of humanitarian assistance, displacements and due process.

Minister Iqbal explained that he had meetings and discussions with numerous non-governmental organizations that continuously promote peace and humanitarian development in the Bangsamoro. Moreover, the current peace process architecture provides modalities for both INGOs and NGOs to engage stakeholders in the Bangsamoro and ensure the protection of civilians especially in communities affected by the conflict.
